Pintail Power specializes in hybrid energy storage technologies which integrate proven thermal energy storage media with gas turbines to improve renewable integration, reduce CO2 emissions, reduce the cost of storage, and increase grid resiliency and reliability.  The technologies are provided to clients under license, with know-how and systems support for design and operation.

Thermal Energy Storage Patents

Thermal Energy Storage hybrids use a hot storage
medium, such as liquid salt, as the storage medium.  The salt is heated
electrically by grid power and then used to make steam for integration
with a gas turbine in a Liquid Salt Combined Cycle™ (LSSC). The FISHER technology is a hybrid for microgrids and combined heat and power applications.

Cryogenic Energy Storage Patents

Cryogenic Energy Storage uses liquid air as the storage medium.  Liquid air is produced by proven industrial processes and can be safely stored  with low losses.  Liquid air can provide tens of Gigawatt-hours, larger than Pumped Storage Hydro, on a compact footprint suitable for a metropolitan area.  The Liquid Air Combined Cycle™ (LACC) is an example of a hybrid cryogenic energy storage system.
